Naval Air Station Whiting Field marked its 20th consecutive year as a National Arbor Day Foundation “Tree City, USA” Tuesday, Dec. 6. The base celebrated the platinum anniversary of its green leadership by planting a sapling river birch on the grounds of the air station’s fire department.

Between August and December of 2011, the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office, the Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement, the Fire Marshal's Office and the Midway Fire Department have responded to more than 70 various types of fires in the Gulf Breeze area. The majority of these files appear to be intentionally set brush fires.
