Today, HB-503 takes effect and Representative Greg Evers (R-Baker) reports that he is “humbled and proud” to have sponsored the legislation in the Florida House. Said Rep. Gov. Charlie Crist approved Senate bill 1946, increasing the size limits for farming equipment allowed on public roadways. This legislation allows farmers to move agricultural equipment from field to field without the necessity of securing a special permit or license or the burden of paying a special transport fee. |

I’ve gotten to be pretty good friends with our Sheriff of Broward County, Al Lamberti. I was telling him yesterday of my concerns over the jailing of so many of Broward County kids, just talking about some of the scary statistics. He too, has been telling citizen groups of the fact that Broward County leads ALL 67 counties in Florida in jail population, so this wasn’t news to him at all. What we discovered together was the fact that Florida now leads the nation in per capita prison population, finally “beating” California, Texas and New York in percentage of people incarcerated! |

My friend Mike Bates, WEBY program director, tells me that Hillary Clinton isn't really out of the picture just yet. In fact, Mike was willing to bet me that Hillary (or her husband Bill) will try to pull some sort of shenanigans at the Democratic Convention Aug. 25-28 in Denver. Is that really possible?

The Florida Department of Transportation and Gulf Islands National Seashore has postponed repairs to the section of the J. Earle Bowden Way from Opal Beach to the western boundary of the Santa Rosa Area. Road work will resume the first week in September. The delay in the road repairs is caused in part by the need to protect sensitive shorebird and sea turtle nesting areas. |

Santa Rosa County - Student score reports for the Norm-Referenced Test (NRT) were released to all schools and districts. The NRT is a test designed to compare the performance of one group of students to a national sample of students, called the norm group. The NRT portion of the FCAT includes Reading comprehension and Mathematics Problem Solving Subtest (Math at grades 9 and 10). The FCAT NRT uses a scale that in Reading Comprehension has a range from a low of 449 in grade 3 to a high of 834 in Grade 10. In Math, the range is from a low of 434 in grade 3 to a high of 885 in grade 10. |
